Choosing a president

There are many issues facing Christians in America during this crucial presidential election year. I have found it sad, very sad indeed, to hear so many of my fellow believers narrowing it down to just one issue.

It is important to remember that we are not choosing a new pastor for our church, or a new chairperson for an organization that revolves around our Christian doctrine.

We are choosing a person to govern
the most powerful country in the world.

Therefore, we should not judge their level of Christianity, but rather their record of service to our country and to its citizens.

It is also important to remember that
the pulpit is not a political platform or podium.

Any pastor who talks about candidates from the pulpit during a scheduled worship service is abusing the calling that God has on his or her life.

The pulpit on the altar is for encouraging the flock of believers, not leading them into your political agenda.

Food for thought - The abortion issue - Will the partial birth abortion ban ever be passed? I say no. Here's why. The republicans will always word the bill in such a way that the democrats will refuse to pass it. That way being that doctors have no say so in the matter whatsoever. The doctor cannot make a judgement call on the wellbeing of his patient, even though that is his job.

The democrats will continue to word it so that it allows the doctor to have the ultimate decision making power. The republicans will not vote for that even though that would decrease greatly the number of abortions, which, by the way, is already at its lowest number in thirty years which makes me scratch my head and wonder why we are still discussing this issue. Back to the issue, the republicans will not vote for a bill written by democrats because - (hear the drumroll?) -

IF THE ABORTION ISSUE IS SOLVED FOR GOOD,
THEN THE REPUBLICANS RISK LOSING THEIR BROAD EVANGELICAL VOTING BASE.

There you have it, it's all a game, a game of power, a game of politics, a game which takes advantage of the emotional issue of abortion in order to further their "other" agenda.

Pray for wisdom and conduct your own due diligent research into choosing our next president.

Verse of the week

Join my family as we seek to be armed with the sword, the mighty word of God.

Remember when Jesus was tempted by Satan? He used words from the scriptures as a weapon - the words are the sword. He prefaced the verses He quoted with "It is written...."   We can and must fight the same way, but only if we are armed with the ammunition needed for a particular event or circumstance. This is why it is so important that we learn the scriptures and carry them in our hearts.

We are learning one new verse each week, as well as identifying who said it, who it was spoken to, and what it means.

Every Sunday we write our chosen verse on an index card. On one side is the King James Version, on the back is our favorite newer translation.

We will know at least 52 verses and how to apply them to our life and use them for ministry at the end of just one year!

This week's verse is...

I can do all things through Christ
which strengtheneth me.

Philippians 4:13

Obviously this verse doesn't need much explanation. This was written by Paul to the believers in Philippi, hence the name ~ Epistle to the Philippians ~. I've often wondered why the word "which" was used instead of the pronoun "who."

Perhaps the "who" is a given, and the knowledge that Christ will strengthen us to do all things is the thing (or the which) that strengthens us.

Either way, the meaning is pretty much the same. We, as believers have access to the authority of God as long as we stay in His will, therefore we have the strength appropriated to us that enables us to do literally anything!

MEMORIZE this verse!

Your confidence will grow and your attitude will change!

Say it daily and claim your promise!

Jesus is the same today

A Blessing for you...

May the grace of Christ our Saviour,
And the Father's boundless love,
With the Holy Spirit's favor,
Rest upon us from above.

Thus may we abide in union
With each other and the Lord,
And possess, in sweet communion,
Joys which earth cannot afford.
Amen.

GOD SPEAKING

The man whispered, "God, speak to me,"
And a meadowlark sang.

But the man did not hear.

So the man yelled, "God, speak to me,"
And the thunder and lightning rolled across the sky.

But the man did not listen.

The man looked around and said,
"God, let me see you,"
And a star shone brightly.

But the man did not see.

And the man shouted, "God, show me a miracle,"
And a life was born.

But the man did not notice.

So the man cried out in despair,
"Touch me, God, and let me know you are here,"

Whereupon, God reached down and touched the man.

But the man brushed the butterfly away
and walked on.

Don't overlook a blessing!

Our motto:

"Love your neighbor as yourself."

The Greatest Commandment

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word,
"You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

(Galatians 5:14 RSV)

love your neighbor as yourself

Words of Wisdom

Watch your thoughts;
  they become words.

Watch your words;
  they become actions.

Watch your actions;
  they become habits.

Watch your habits;
  they become character.

Watch your character;
  it becomes your destiny.
- Frank Outlaw

Salvation

What does salvation mean to you?

The Hebrew meaning is:
to be set free from a limited existence.

Did you know?...

* Psalms 118 is in the center of the Bible

* There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118

* There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118

* Add these two numbers 594 + 594

* Guess which verse is in the center of the Bible?

What to pray for:

I asked for bread and got a stone. I used the stone to grind the grain, that made the flour to form the bread, that I could not obtain.

Instead of asking Him to give the things for which we pray, all that we need to ask from God is this:

SHOW ME THE WAY!

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you.
(KJV) Matthew 6:33

How do we do His will and seek the kingdom of God?

God has a different plan and purpose for each of us. Finding that plan and purpose is sometimes a life long journey. But all we really need to do is study His word daily, pray without ceasing, tithe our 10%, and offer sacrificial offerings (above the standard tithe) whenever we are able.

As we commit to doing His will by obeying His instructions, He will reveal His good and perfect will to us, and will handle all of our needs, wants, and desires.

Delight thyself also in the Lord:
and he shall give thee
the desires of thine heart.

(KJV) Psalms 37:4
